Lead The Recovery Barre meetings in your community.

The Recovery Barre instructor trainings are offered in partnership with Fit Pro Programming, a trusted leader in the fitness industry. Through this training, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to lead recovery-focused community meetups and beginner-friendly barre classes—taught “barreless,” meaning no barre is required.

What is Barre?

Barre is a low-impact blend of strength training, Pilates, and yoga, with subtle ballet-inspired movements. It requires no prior experience or flexibility, making it accessible to everyone. This style of barre is an excellent way to build muscular endurance and improve whole-body stabilization. Importantly, barre also stimulates brain-boosting chemicals that support mental health—especially vital for individuals in recovery who are actively rewiring their brain pathways.

How to become a certified Recovery Barre instructor

  • 1. Have a Foundational Certification

The Recovery Barre serves a specialized community by combining foundational movement principles with essential mental health and recovery concepts. A basic understanding of movement is a base prerequisite to acquiring The Recovery Barre certification.

You must hold a certification in barre from any accredited program, or be a certified personal trainer or group fitness instructor. For those new to fitness, affordable, accessible training options are offered in partnership with Barre Above, a leading and accredited 8-hour instructor training program. Please express your interest in attending a Barre Above certification [HERE] to access a training discount available for those planning to become Recovery Barre certified and serve their communities, or see scholarship information HERE.

  • 2. Attend The Recovery Barre 6-hour Training

Attend The Recovery Barre training, offered both in person and virtually. Our inaugural 6-hour livestream training launches on Saturday, November 8, 2025. To bring a Barre Above and The Recovery Barre back-to-back two-day training to your facility for your center, staff, or studio, please reach out HERE.

Full and partial scholarships are available by application—including for the foundational Barre Above certification for first-time instructors. Priority is given to those with financial need who are in active recovery, have been directly impacted by addiction, or belong to underserved minority communities.

Additional discounts are available for currently licensed CADC counselors.

You’ll walk away with everything you need to lead your own community-based Recovery Barre meetings as soon as you’d like, including:

Tools to create beginner-friendly, barreless, and inclusive barre classes

Guidance on using body-neutral and inclusive cueing

Physical modifications and accessible movement options

A full class + meeting blueprint to make planning simple

Marketing tools to help you build partnerships and spread the word

Continuing education units (CEUs) awarded by the American Council of Exercise (ACE), the National Academy for Sports Medicine (NASM), and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA).

This training blends foundational movement with key mental health and recovery principles—empowering you to lead with confidence, create a welcoming space for others, and become a community leader in the shared mission to heal addiction and foster meaningful connections.
